Is Banner Marketing Really Dead?

Back when online businesses were new, one of the most effective forms of internet advertising were banners. If you wanted to purchase advertising for a webpage, you would likely purchase banner ads. If you were interested in earning money from a content based website, you would have sold banner ads.

Nowadays, banner advertisements are now replaced by PPC ads. PPC advertisements are much better because clicks are a better measurement of the actual value of an advertisements than the impressions, since impressions can be faked and are not worth much with such low click-through-rates.

Additionally, programs such as Google have done an excellent job at filtering out malicious clicks and to also help in fighting click fraud, which has really improved the true value of PPC.

Also, internet users have become really blind to these forms of advertisements. Most webpage users would ignore the traditional banner ads because they automatically see them as ads.

I think that banner ads will still continue to become less effective and will eventually become obsolete.
