Are E-zines Really So Obsolete?

I remember e-zines used to be rather common. Most webpages would have some form or type of email newsletters. However, now it seems that e-zines have become really obsolete. Email marketing has already become less effective because it has been abused by so many spammers. Additionally, people don’t use email addresses to keep in touch as much since they can now use instant messengers, social networking webpage, and cell-phones. Most of all, I think the massive amounts of blogs and blogging over the last couple years has made e-zines more redundant and pointless. An email newsletter could also be published as a blog. Individulas can subscribe to blogs using RSS, and web experts can easily turn their RSS into some type of an email update service. Also, non-subscribers can still come to the blog to see the new posts that come up. What do you think? Have e-zines become obsolete?
